T-SHIRT QUILTS
We all have T-shirts tucked away that we don’t wear but can’t bring ourselves to get rid of. They hold memories near and dear to us. Now you can turn them into a quilt so they are fun, functional, and tell your story.
I have been making T-shirt quilts for more years than I can remember. I made them from my son’s swim team shirts, from my daughter’s sorority tees, my jazzercise community shirts, sports tees, and whatever else someone brought me. They are a fun way to preserve memorable activities.
Every T-shirt quilt is an original. I can work with a few shirts and add more quilting fabric and sashing or I can work with a lot of shirts. Prices depend on your design.
Please contact me to discuss your project and pricing. Turn around time is 4-8 weeks, so please plan early, especially if you need it for a special occasion.
Note that some quilters use strict size standards to produce their T-shirt quilts so that all blocks are the same size. This often results in parts of a logo being cut off. My T-shirt quilts are all custom. This ensures that your entire T-shirt logo is preserved.
Also, some advertised T-shirt quilts are not actually quilted. Rather, they are constructed to be more like a blanket. My T-shirt quilts are all custom quilted with a pattern of your choice.
Becky (right) is holding her much loved Jazzercise quilt. She was in my local Jazzercise community. Each of our members provided one of their Jazzercise shirts and I made her a quilt out of them that she took into her Chemo treatments. It was a very special quilt.
Gifts:
If you are surprising someone with a t-shirt quilt, you probably will not want to send their shirts without their consent. In that case, you can order a gift box to surprise them with a gift certificate and they can decide which shirts go in their quilt and mail them back in the box.
Email me for information on the gift boxes.
The Process:
I cut the logos and lay them out into a pattern to balance color and logo size.
I may use a coordinating fabric sashing between the rows or between the t-shirt logos to help square everything up. The pieces are next sewn together to make the quilt top.
The top is then loaded onto my computerized long-arm quilting machine with batting and a coordinating fabric backing and binding.
The layout and finished size of your T-shirt quilt will depend on the size of the panels I can cut from the shirts.
